Proof of Concept: SWIFT Channel

Voca is the UK’s leading provider of payment services, processing all UK Direct Debits, Direct Credits and Standing Orders. It is part of the UK critical national infrastructure and currently processes over 5 billion payments per annum, serving over 100,000 UK businesses and processing over 90% of all UK salaries. In over 37 years Voca has processed over 50 billion transactions and has never lost a payment.

Voca had been investigating the use of SWIFT (FileACT) as a strategic channel both for existing banks to continue to submit large quantities of data as well as improve their penetration into other UK and European markets. The challenge was to achieve data throughput that had not been previously proven across the SWIFT network. To achieve this Sycamore ITC were engaged to analyse the challenge and provide a solution to validate this approach.

Sycamore delivered an initial proof of concept to Voca proving SWIFT could handle the volume of data. This project was completed successfully ahead of schedule and within the initial budget estimate. This has enabled Voca to proceed with a SWIFTNet offering as part of its ongoing technology renewal programme.
